with Morton Gould
Summary
This program takes place at the Rembert Wurlitzer violin workshop in New York City. In the only shop of its kind in America, the ancient craft of violin-making is still being practiced, using techniques, tools, and plans that came directly from the hands of the great seventeenth century Cremonese master, Antonio Stradivari. Host Morton Gould is given a demonstration of the making of a violin by Simone Fernando Sacconi, the shop's master craftsman. Gould also speaks briefly with Lee Wurlitzer, who took over her late husband's shop after his death in 1963, and with their daughter, Marianne Wurlitzer, working at the bench with Maestro Sacconi and the other violin makers, including Dario d'Attili, Sacconi's eventual successor.
